EPL Season Preview: What To Expect From The Top 7 Teams
The highly awaited and anticipated 2016/2017 English premier league season is here. This season promises to be the most competitive, unpredictable and probably toughest in recent years as top and highly decorated coaches around the globe are set to battle things out for the title this season.
Last season was one to forget for majority of the top clubs but definitely one that would last in the memory of the “FOXES” Leicester City who went on to claim the title in what is called a “FairyTale” season. But top teams has been busy during the course of the holiday as most of them look to have reinforce and are getting ready to battle come 13th of August.
Here is a preview on the “TOP 7” clubs going into the 2016/2017 season;
Arsenal finished 10points behinds winners Leicester city last season in what was supposed to be best time to win the league for the first time since 2004. This current transfer window have not brought about much movement within the club but the signing of defensive midfielder Xhaka seemed to have given the fans of the club a new hope of may be they would go one better this season by winning the league. Arsenal start their campaign at home against tough opposition Liverpool with majority of their 1st team players out.
Chelsea had the worst season among the top clubs setting a bad record of been the first defending champion to finish outside the top 4. There however seems to be a fresh breath of hope among the supporters since new head coach Antonio Conte has taken the reins at the club and also with the signing of last season EPL best defensive midfielder N’golo Kante and Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi. With Chelsea not any European competition this season, anything other than a top 4 finish is seen as a failure and the start their campaign at home against London rivals Westham on Monday night.
With Van gaal gone and the “Special One” now in charge, Manchester united are best placed to be the winners of this season’s title. They have spent close to a billion dollars in the current transfer window even setting a new world record transfer fee with the acquisition of French midfielder Paul Pogba. They also completed the signing of the decorated Zlatan Ibrahimovic among others. Anything other than a top 2 finish will be seen as a failure. They kick of their campaign away to Bournemouth.
Manchester city announced Pep Guardiola as the new manager towards the end of last season which meant they are in for real business this term. They have really been busy over the course of the summer signing quite a go amount of players in persons of Nolito, Sane, Stones, among others to an already decorated squad. What Pep would bring to Manchester city and English football remains to be seen but one thing that is sure remains they will fight up to the end.
Liverpool lost in the cup finals last season after Jurgen Klopp took the reins and this was faulted to the fact that he didn’t have the right equipment in terms of players available for him. Well this season, he definitely has gotten the time to pick is type of players as Liverpool have been really busy during the course of the summer signing not so high profile players in persons of Saido Mane, Klavan, Wilnajdum among others. They are also not in any European competition so what they have in fold is only meant to be seen as Klopp and his boys have something to prove.
Every story has its own unique ending and last season’s title story was one the Leicester city supporters wont want to forget. They came and did the impossible not just clinging the title but winning it with matches to spare. Now their fairy tale season is over and football fans all over the world are expectant of what they would present this season again. With one question been asked “ARE THEY NOW A BIG CLUB”?. This remains to be seen as the season unfold. Losing Kante to Chelsea, they have been few changes to the side with notable signing of Mendy and club record signing of Ahmed Musa. They kick off the 2016/2017 season against newcomers Hull City.
Spurs were last seasons closest title contender before falling short to third position on the final day. There have been no real movement within the club with Southampton midfielder Wanyama coming in. How they would fare with Champions league and the league remains to be seen. They kick off their season away to Everton.
This season isn’t just a battle among the top 7 clubs as even the small clubs have been making transfers with big names coming to English football in the likes of Negredo and Llorente. English premier league is the most exciting league in the world and this season promises to be filled with more drama, heartbreaks and shocks.
