CAF in relation to Article 74 of its regulations, decided who gets to play in the quarter-final between Guinea and Mali.
Guinea and Mali were stuck in a two way lane in-terms of points and statistics and could only have been seperated by a rule under the Confederation of African Football, CAF’s Article 27 which states that in a case where there is a tie between two or three countries in a group, a draw-of-lots will be conducted.
The two countries ended the group stage with three draws from all three games, conceding three goals and head-to-head could not even seperate them as there was none particularly better than the other.
Article 74 :There will be two balls with position two (2) and position three (3), and the representative of the two teams will pick a ball from the pot. The one who picks position two (2) qualifies for the quarter final
After the draw-of-lots by CAF on Thursday, Guinea was the lucky one who gets to play in the quarter-final against Ghana who topped Group C.
Quarter Final clashes:
Congo vs RD Congo
Tunisia vs Eq. Guinea
Ghana vs Guinea
Cote D’Ivoire vs Algeria
