Injured Manchester United defender, Luke Shaw has confirmed he is not one of the top-flight footballers who is about to come out as Gay.
Responding to allegations made on social media which hinted at him being homosexual, Manchester United left-back, Luke Shaw has told internet trolls to ‘shut up’ after denying rumours he is one of two Premier League stars on the verge of coming out as gay.
Twitter have been rampant with speculation as to the identities of the two footballers believed to be weeks away from becoming only the second and third England-based players to announce that they’re gay while still playing.
But the England international defender has flatly denied that he’s not one of them. Responding to a message online, the 20-year-old said: ‘It’s not me so everyone can shut up now.’
Last week, it was reportedly revealed that the two big-money footballers – one an England international, are set to announce their sexuality before the start of next season.
They’d follow only the single example of former Norwich and Nottingham Forest striker, Justin Fashanu, who in 1990 came out as gay and 8 years later, while facing charges of sexual assault in the United States, committed suicide.
Former Everton and Aston Villa midfielder, Thomas Hitzlsperger became the most high-profile footballer to come out when he revealed he was gay last year. However, he had already retired from playing.
