An armed robbery suspect who is now in custody of the Lagos State Police Command, Godwin Michael, allegedly blamed the devil for indulging in the life of crime, claiming he was not in his right senses whenever he was robbing.
Michael, a 32 year old man, said he was once remanded in 2011 over a robbery case but was released on health grounds but instead of changing for the better, he returned to his old ways.
The police however described Michael as an unrepentant criminal who was associated to a notorious three-man robbery gang which specialized in breaking into people’s houses.
His latest brush with the law was on April 1, when his gang carried out a house-to-house robbery operation at Ahmadiyya area on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
After robbing the first two rooms and went to the third room, one of the thieves, Adeyemi Ibrahim, was arrested and handed over to the police at the Meran Police Station, while Michael and the gang leader fled with the money they made from the raid.
It was Ibrahim who led policemen to arrest Michael at Katangua Market at Abule-Egba, on the outskirts of Lagos, where he was selling clothes.
