Sunderland Terminates Adam Johnson Contract After Pleading Guilty To Child Sex
Sunderland have terminated Adam Johnson’s contract with immediate effect, following his admittance of guilt to one charge of sexual activity with a child under 16 and another count of grooming.
Johnson is on trial for sexual activities with a child in relation to incidents between December 2014 and February 2015, and even though he has admitted to one count of sex, he denies two counts of sex with a child under sixteen.
It was later confirmed, Johnson will miss the match against United in the weekend, with Sunderland taking further action by terminating the attacker’s contract.
A statement from the club read:
“In light of Adam Johnson’s guilty plea, the club has today terminated his contract with immediate effect.”
It was also revealed on Thursday that Adidas had brought an end to their sponsorship with Johnson.
