Super Eagles Captain John Obi Mikel Reveals Mourinho Lost Confidence In Him
Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has blamed his lack of playing time earlier in the season on manager Jose Mourinho not trusting him.
Mikel, who has now returned to being a more influential player under interim manager Guus Hiddink, revealed that he didn’t know why he lost the trust of Mourinho, who brought him to the club in 2006.
“I think confidence is everything, if a manager doesn’t believe in you, trust me there’s no way you can succeed,” he said. “Even if you do things right he would always make sure he finds fault.
He didn’t have the trust he used to have in me before, which is fine because every manager has the player that they have trust in.
“Football is a tough business, so when a manager comes in he wants to have people he believes in. If he doesn’t believe in you he doesn’t play you. And I think it’s all about a manager giving a player confidence.”
