Victor Anichebe Reports His Club To FIFA For “Match-Fixing”
Emerging reports have it that FIFA is currently investigating a match fixing allegation leveled against Beijing Enterprises by their own player, Victor Anichebe.
Reports have it that FIFA is currently investigating allegations of match-fixing made by Victor Anichebe against his club Beijing Enterprises.
The former Everton and West Brom striker, who joined the China League One side last summer after leaving Sunderland, lodged the complaint after alleging he was asked “not to try” by coaches on two occasions, including for a game against their local rivals.
The 30-year-old has questioned the instruction but claimed he was told by team-mates, “This is China, we do as we’re told.”
The Daily Mail reports that Manchester-based sports lawyer Chris Farnell approached Beijing’s general manager on Anichebe’s behalf but he has been ignored by the Chinese Super League club’s officials twice.
Farnell confirmed: “We have been instructed to approach Beijing’s general manager on the player’s behalf but, to date, his appeals for action have been ignored on two occasions.
“We have since reported the matter to the appropriate associations.”
The club have still not denied his allegation, which the towering frontman has taken to football’s governing body and hopes will lead to action soon.
It is not the first allegation of match-fixing in Chinese football.
The Chinese FA fined 12 top-flight clubs and banned 58 officials, players and referees for match-fixing and bribery after a three-year investigation in 2013.
