Pepe Reina Returns To Napoli On A Free Transfer

Bayern Munich have confirmed that goalkeeper Pepe Reina has been released from his contract, allowing him to sign and return to Napoli on a free transfer.
The Spaniard joined the Bavarians last summer on a three-year deal having seen out his contract at Liverpool, but was restricted to just three appearances in all competitions in 2014-15.
As a result, the goalkeeper had been strongly linked with Napoli – with whom he had spent a year on loan prior to linking up with Pep Guardiola’s Bundesliga champions – and Bayern confirmed the deal for him to join the Serie A side was a reality.
“Pepe Reina has asked us to release him from his contract because he wants to sign for Napoli where he will have the chance to play as a goalkeeper on a regular basis,” Bayern deputy chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen told the club’s website on Tuesday.
“Reina has fitted into our team in sporting – and above all human – terms so we more than happy to comply with his request. We wish Pepe and his family all the best for the future.”
“Pepe Reina is a Napoli player,” the club’s website stated. “The goalkeeper had his medical on Tuesday morning accompanied by team doctor Dr. De Nicola and then signed with President De Laurentiis.”
