Taylor Swift apologized to Nicki Minaj on Twitter, two days after the singers exchanged bitter words about the MTV VMA nominations.
“I thought I was being called out,” said Swift on Thursday. “I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki.”

I’ve always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let’s move on.
Minaj blasted MTV on Twitter on Tuesday for not nominating her music video “Anaconda” in the video of the year category. She said that if she had been a different “kind” of artist she would have been nominated and pointed out that “other” female musicians who break records with their videos receive nominations. She also talked about videos that celebrate “women with slim bodies.”
Swift, and many other people on social media, thought Minaj’s comments were aimed at her. “I’ve done nothing but love & support you,” Swift said to Minaj. “It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”
Minaj responded that she had not been referring to Swift at all, and Swift was criticized by those who felt she was shifting the conversation away from one about race and musical recognition.
Other celebrities jumped into the conversation. Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars had their own fake MTV VMA feud. Piers Morgan called Minaj a “whiny brat” and defended Swift. Katy Perry weighed in as well, saying, “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman.”

On Thursday after tweeting her thank you to Swift for her apology, Minaj tweeted an emoji kiss to Perry, with no words.
