The latest Trend- Baby Mama
I’m going to try hard not to sound like an over reacting pained Nigerian woman on this post. These days I wonder if morality is even a virtue anymore or is immorality a Western thing that was adopted along with civilizations of the Africans, is that why our sense of what is good and bad has been changed or taken with most of our heritage. According to the latest gist in town, the new trend among male celebrities in Nigeria these days is having one or more baby mamas. This trend is not a new thing among foreign celebrities as the likes of Lil Wayne, Tyga, Chris Brown and co have children outside the confines of marriage. But then when you think about it, baby mamas isn’t really a new concept in Nigeria, it dates as far back of the time of Sir Shina Peters, decades ago. I wasn’t around as of then but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a norm or a source of pride as it is now.
Two baba has his baby mamas before marrying one, Paul of P square had his before she became wife, Ice Prince has a baby mama, Wizkid, Davido, latest member into the association of baby papas D’Prince. A few years ago to be a popular male celebrity in Nigeria, all you had to do was create a club banger with its own unique dance step, have your own signature hairstyle, talk about how stardom has robbed you of your private life and dress like everywhere is a dance floor. But now as it is before we all know it, only baby papas will have their songs aired on the radio and danced to in clubs. I still debate in my mind as to whether it is the woman or the celeb in question that wants a child(ren) outside wedlock or it is a mere act of carelessness.
I hope to one day have an answer to my debate and that the whole African heritage doesn’t go into extinction.
